ON THE LIMITATIONS OF THE BRINKMAN-FORCHHEIMER EXTENDED DARCY EQUATION

In this work, several philosophical points with respect to the momentu m equation in a porous medium are analyzed. We show that several erron eous/irrelevant issues were put forward in previous work. A porous med ium/clear fluid interface is best dealt with by the Brinkman-Forchheim er-extended Darcy formulation and the continuity of velocities and str esses at the interface. The effect of porosity variation is not requir ed for a high-porosity medium but should be considered for a dense por ous medium.
