Abstract
Using thermodynamic data, the effect of atmospheric SO2 and acid depos ition on the deterioration of portland cement has been estimated. Thou gh increases with acid depositions, deterioration is possible under no rmal atmospheric conditions and even by natural rain. Cement deteriora tes faster by reacting with SO2 than with H+.
