Abstract
This article reports on the results of a training curriculum presented to 150 school personnel from 9 states. On the basis of participants' ratings of 26 sessions offered at two 36-hour residential training ins titutes, the neurochemistry of drug dependence, the philosophy of inte rvention and pharmacology, community networking and engaging families in prevention efforts, cross-cultural counseling and substance abuse i ntervention, and adolescent aftercare research were identified as key training areas for future school-community-university substance abuse prevention initiatives. It concludes that federal and state funds may assist some colleges and universities to provide substance abuse educa tion and training for school personnel. In addition, colleges of educa tion and universities should consider developing partnerships with loc al community agencies and school districts in order to provide educati on and training in the area of substance use and abuse.
