Abstract
''Heading Toward Normal: Deinstitutionalization for the Mentally Retar ded Client'' considers the differences between institutionalized and d einstitutionalized residential care for people who are mentally challe nged. Normalization is presented as a method to include people who are disabled in culturally normative activities. A project associated wit h deinstitutionalization for two subjects is described and the results of psychological tests are given. The conclusion of the study suggest s that socialization opportunities within the community play a signifi cant role in the personal development of individuals with developmenta l disabilities.
