A ''non-progressor'' with HIV, diagnosed in 1984, comments from a pers
onal perspective on how people with HIV are affected by social and pro
fessional attitudes. The failure of some professionals to develop an u
nderstanding of HIV beyond their own particular field of expertise con

esult in broader social and and psychosocial aspects of HIV, such as d
iscrimination, being inadequately addressed.
