Abstract
Neutron diffuse scattering measurements were made on CoMn and NiMn all oys to characterize the magnetic short-range order and to determine th e sublattice moments. The CoMn alloys have average sublattice moments three times smaller than the NiMn alloys. This is attributed to a mome nt-volume instability for the Mn atom.
