Cu2MnAl1-xYx amorphous ribbons prepared by melt quench method were obt
ained for 0.1 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.3. In th
e amorphous material it was found that the paramagnetic-like state cha
nges to a spin glass at around 50 K. Neutron diffraction patterns show
ed the coexistence of antiferro- and ferro-magnetic interactions due t
o the first and second nearest Mn-Mn pairs, respectively. The competit
ion of these interactions may bring about the spin glass state.
