In this paper the effect of particle interactions on the behaviour of
the thermoremanent magnetisation (TRM) curve is examined. The variatio
n of the TRM with cooling field is well known, and shows an anomalous
peak rather than a monotonic increase to saturation. In this paper a m
ean field approach and a Monte Carlo model are compared. The Monte Car
lo calculations predict a peak in the TRM, which is a consequence of t
he interaction field, whereas the mean field approach does not predict
a peak.
