Abstract
Mossbauer and magnetization measurements on maghemite particles, which were uncoated or coated with oleic acid, showed that the blocking tem perature decreases upon coating. Moreover, it was found that particle vibrations are enhanced upon coating. Thus the results indicate a corr elation between the mechanical and the magnetic coupling of the partic les.
