A theory of interface-interface interactions in metallic magnetic mult
ilayers is developed which takes into account two-dimensional translat
ional symmetry via a surface Green's function technique within the tig
ht-binding linear muffin-tin orbital method. This new approach is appl
ied to different geometrical arrangements, namely to the cases of two
Co(001) monolayers in a bulk Cu spacer, and to a Cu spacer between two
Co(001) semi-infinite slabs. The pronounced suppression of the long p
eriod oscillations was found in the latter case.
