Abstract
The torque method is formulated in terms of Green's functions in a tig ht-binding representation and is generalised to deal with non-collinea r magnetization such as occurs in helically ordered rare earth systems . A new mechanism is suggested for perpendicular coupling between magn etic layers in transition metal systems.
