The relation between giant magnetoresistance (GMR) and microstructure
has been investigated for Au-Co bulk nanogranular alloys prepared by w
ater-quenching and subsequent aging. The GMR has been observed after a
ging. In particular, 12% of the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio is achiev
ed at room temperature in the Au85Co15 aged at 250 degrees C for 100 h
, which is larger than the ratio in Co/Au multilayers. The Co precipit
ates confirmed to be of disk-shape with 20 nm long and 0.6 nm thick wi
th the shape of MR curve affected by TEM.
