Abstract
Numerical simulation of pulse amplification in birefringent optical fi bers is reported with emphasis on the evolution of its polarization. W e find a complex polarization state of the amplified pulse and stress the Implications of our results for the operation of fiber lasers usin g a birefringent fiber amplifier mode locking element.
