The reactions of M(2)(CO)(10) (M = Mn Re) with trans-1-aryl-3-cyanopro
p-2-en-1-ones in the presence of Me(3)NO proceed with replacement of t
he CO ligand and lead to complexes aryl-3-cyanoprop-2-en-1-on)nonacarb
onyldimanganese and 1-aryl-3-cyanoprop-2-en-1-on)nonacarbonyldirhenium
complexes where the metals are bonded with the ligand through the nit
rogen atom of the cyanogroup. The treatment of phenyl-3-cyanoprop-2-en
-1-on)nonacarbonyldirhenium with a second equivalent of the ligand res
ulted in the disubstituted complex, phenyl-3-cyanoprop-2-en-1-on)octac
arbonyldirhenium in a good yield. The structures of the obtained compl
exes are discussed on the basis of C-13, H-1 NMR, and IR-spectroscopy.
