Cyclohexene oxidation using [Cr(Salen) (H2O)2(Cl)] catalyst is promote
d in CH2Cl2 solvent and on increasing concentration of catalyst. The c
ompetitive oxidation of cycloolefins follows the order: norbornene > c
ycloheptene > cyclohexene.cis- and trans-stilbenes give corresponding
oxide and benzaldehyde whereas norbornene gives only exo-epoxide. This
catalysed epoxidation involves carbocation type of intermediate.
