PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC ACTIVITY IN THE TROMSO AREA

Psychotherapy has been a part of the in-service training of psychiatri c residents in the Tromso area for 20 years. Systematic training in sy stemic family therapy has been offered since the beginning of the 1970 s. During the last eight years the Institute of Psychotherapy has arra nged four introductory courses and one advanced course in individual p sychotherapy in Tromso. During autumn 1993 the Center for Psychotherap y and Psychosocial Rehabilitation of Psychoses (SEPREP) initiated a co urse in psychotherapy with severely disturbed patients. Most of the se nior psychiatrists have completed two or four years training in dynami c psychotherapy at the Norwegian Institute of Psychotherapy. During th e last eight years, in particular, there has been an increase in the m anifold of professional thinking and practice which much has improved the clinical treatment facilities. For the time being we have 10 out o f 10 possible psychiatric residents at Asgard psychiatric hospital.
