Abstract
The formation of singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) by microwave radiation as wel l as its chemical reactivity in the gas phase and in solution is discu ssed. For comparison also the chemical processes induced by ultrasonic radiation are shortly mentioned. The similarity of the oxidation proc esses of aqueous organic substances initiated by sonolysis and radioly sis is illustrated on some examples.
