Abstract
Ecdysone monosulfates (at C-2, C-3 and C-22) and ecdysone 2,22-disulfa te were synthesised using sulfur trioxide triethylamine complex as sul fation agent. Direct sulfation of ecdysone afforded a mixture of vario us sulfates. Regioselective sulfation of ecdysone was achieved by util izing temporary protection of hydroxy groups. The chromatographic beha viour of synthetic sulfates was compared with that of various other po lar conjugates of ecdysone and 20-hydroxyecdysone. General rules to ch aracterise ecdysteroid conjugates are proposed.
