F. Donofrio et al., THE BINARY REAGENT PHSECL-ZNCL2 - A POWERFUL CHLORO-PHENYLSELENENYLATING AGENT OF ELECTROPHILIC OLEFINS, Tetrahedron letters, 36(11), 1995, pp. 1929-1932
The binary reagent PhSeCl-ZnCl2 was found to be powerful for the stere
ocontrolled conversion of highly electrophilic olefins, such as maleat
e and fumarate esters, into the corresponding chloro phenylseleno deri
vatives in very high yields. Other olefins, such as methyl acrylate an
d methyl vinyl ketone, react virtually instantaneously.
