Mortality from septic shock is considerable despite the advantages of
cardiovascular support and antibiotic therapy. This article reviews cu
rrent therapy of septic shock including immunotherapy and futher possi
bilities of septic shock treatment. The role of cytokines, their inhib
itors and antibodies to endotoxin is mentioned. Although these treatme
nts hold much promise for the future, careful evalution of both the be
nefits and complications of therapy is needed before widespread clinic
al use can be recommended.
