Md. Brown et al., TRANSPUTER IMPLEMENTATION OF ADAPTIVE-CONTROL FOR A TURBOGENERATOR SYSTEM, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ELECTRICAL POWER AND ENERGY SYSTEMS, 17(1), 1995, pp. 21-38
The paper describes the design and implementation of digital self-tuni
ng automatic voltage regulators for excitation control of a synchronou
s generator. Practical aspects such as controller robustness and proce
ssing power are discussed Conventional microprocessor technology is un
able to achieve the sampling periods required for industrial applicati
on. A parallel architecture using INMOS transputers combined with an a
dvanced VME bus-based measurement system provide an open-ended solutio
n to this problem, and enable the adaptive controllers to operate with
in the required 10 ms sample period. The scheme was initially evaluate
d on a computer simulation of a three-phase turboalternator. A laborat
ory model turbogenerator was then controlled to test the performance a
nd reliability of the system under realistic conditions.
