The current state of mechanical test methodology for continuous fibre
reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) is described and analysed
based on comments made in the literature and on recent testing experie
nce accumulated by the author. Practical problems of testing that have
been encountered are discussed in relation to the development of ASTM
and CEN standardised rest methods, Topics covered include flexural, t
ensile, compressive, and shear testing, determination of elastic modul
i and fracture toughness, extensometry, and high temperature testing.
