Nonverbal indicators of deception in a simulated police interview were
examined, particularly the relationship between arm and hand movement
s and deception, an area in which conflicting results have previously
been found. Therefore, in this study, I adopted a more detailed scorin
g system of arm and hand movements and introduced a baseline interview
. Results showed a decrease in subtle hand and finger movements during
deception, and thus strongly supported the assumption that subjects t
ry to control their behavior during deception but that this attempted
control is only partly successful.
