Abstract
Thermolysis of acetophene oxime arenesulfonate in boiling tetralin for 2 h affords NH3, SO2, H2O, arene, acetophenone, benzonitrile, 2-methy lbenzoxazole, acetanilide, arenesulfonic acid, biaryl, diarylsulfide, diarylsulfone, diaryldisulfone, arylammonium sulfonate, ammonium sulfi te, phenol and p-cresol. Similar results were obtained on thermolysis of benzophenone oxime arenesulfonates to give benzanilide, benzonitril e, benzophenone and 2-phenylbenzoxazole. A free radical mechanism was suggested to account for the observed results.
