Simulations of critical or near-critical wetting in 2+1 dimensions exh
ibit strong finite-size effects. Both the size of the area of the subs
trate from which the interface unbinds and the presence of a second su
bstrate to contain the unbound interface, influence the apparent locat
ion and order of the transition. These two influences are studied anal
ytically in a continuum version of the SOS model in 1+1 dimensions. Fi
nite-size scaling functions qualitatively show the behavior observed i
n the simulations and implications for the latter are discussed.
