Abstract
Titanium layers 40, 90 and 220 nm thick in nickel-titanium multilayer thin films are shown to deposit with a hexagonal close packed structur e that transforms to a face centered cubic structure when thinned, usi ng an ion beam, for transmission electron microscopy. Implications for recent reports of polymorphic fcc Ti in multilayers are noted.
