This paper examines the implications of Chinese culture, economic refo
rm, political system and western social work theory for Chinese social
work education, and presents a developing model of social work educat
ion in China. It suggests that social work education in China should f
ocus on the practical and theoretical problems arising from the ongoin
g reforms of the economy and political system. Chinese social work edu
cation, to develop and mature, should take the path of integration wit
h China's social practice.
