M. Sebbane et al., ACUTE PNEUMONIA DUE TO INHALATION OF KERO SENE - REPORT OF A CASE IN A FIRE-EATER, La Semaine des hopitaux de Paris, 71(7-8), 1995, pp. 216-218
A case of acute pneumonia due to the inhalation of deodorized kerosene
in a patient who occasionally performed as a fire-eater is reported.
The clinical and roentgenologic manifestations of this condition are f
airly uniform from case to case. Complications are rare and the outcom
e is usually favorable. Antimicrobial and corticosteroid therapy is de
sirable although still controversial. The physicochemical properties o
f kerosene explain the pathophysiology of the pulmonary lesions.
