Abstract
This article discusses how an internist should approach a patient with joint pain. It reviews aspects of the history, physical, and laborato ry tests that help establish the diagnosis. General treatment issues a re discussed. Common questions, including the use of prophylactic miso prostol and the management of a positive ANA in an asymptomatic patien t, are answered.
