An extraction generator for [Tc-99m]sodium pertechnetate is described.
The generator can utilize either carrier-free Mo-99 or up to 250 g ir
radiated MoO3 targets. The construction of the prototype generator and
the changes done, improving its performance characteristics, are disc
ussed. Special attention is paid to the alumina filter, concerning its
influence over the product's yields. Different types of alumina have
been studied and the results discussed. The [Tc-99m]sodium pertechneta
te produced has passed the required clinical tests to meet the require
ments of the Bulgarian Medical Authorities and has been used in clinic
s.
