Jm. Oneill et al., EVIDENCE OF OBSERVER RELIABILITY FOR THE FAGAN TEST OF INFANT INTELLIGENCE (FTII), Infant behavior & development, 17(4), 1994, pp. 465-469
To obtain estimates of observer reliability, the Fagan Test of Infant
Intelligence (FTII) apparatus was modified to allow the infants' perfo
rmance to be videotaped. Based upon results of 25 infants scored once
during time of testing and again 2 years later using the videotape ver
sion, interobserver and intraobserver reliabilities obtained for perce
nt novelty preference (test rounds), total number of looks (familiariz
ation and test rounds), and mean fixation duration (familiarization an
d test rounds) were mostly very high for each round (M r = .92, SD = .
04). The videotaped infants' scores did not differ significantly from
those of a comparable sample of infants who were rested using an unmod
ified apparatus.
