Specific heat and susceptibility measurements were performed on Ni(C2H
8N2)(2)Ni(CN)(4) between nominally 50 mK and 20 K. The results indicat
e the material is an S = 1 Heisenberg chain system with D/k = 6 K and
D/\J\ = 10-20. The low-temperature specific heat results suggest, for
the first time, tile presence of magnetic excitations known as (anti)
excitons.
