Magnetic susceptibility measurements and neutron powder diffraction we
re performed on orthorhombic Na2TiCl4. The Ti2+ ions occupy compressed
Cl-6 octahedra sharing common edges to form Ti-Cl chains along the c-
axis. The powder susceptibility can be fitted using a one-dimensional
S = 1 Heisenberg: model with \J\/k(B) = (58 +/- 5)K plus a Curie-Weiss
contribution. Below T-N = (13.0 +/- 0.5)K, magnetic superstructure re
flections show the onset of 3d antiferromagnetic order with mu = (0.89
+/- 0.05)mu(B) at 1.8 K.
