Abstract
Using magnetization and magnetostriction measurements we have investig ated various field-induced and spontaneous spin-reorientation phase tr ansitions (SRPT) in pure NdCrO3 and Nd1-xEuxCrO3 (x = 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.9 ) single crystals. Analysis of these data gives evidence that spontane ous Morin type Gamma(2)(G(2)F(x))-Gamma(1)(G(y)) SRPT in Nd1-xEuxCrO3 is determined by a competition between two contributions (Zeeman-like and Van Vleck) in the be-plane anisotropy energy resulting from an ani sotropic Nd-Cr exchange.
