Abstract
It is proposed to identify pure magnetostrictive strains as the differ ence between measured total strains and computed elastic strains gener ated by surface and body forces of magnetic origin. This procedure is exemplified by the magneto-elastic analysis of a torus made of a soft ferromagnetic material and submitted to a circumferential magnetic fie ld.
