COUPLED ANTHRAQUINONES FROM THE TOADSTOOL DERMOCYBE ICTERINOIDES

Fruit bodies of the fungus Democybe icterinoides contain the atropisom eric anthraquinone-dihydroanthracenone dimers, icterinoidin A and B, t he axial stereochemistry of which follows from their respective CD spe ctra. A third pigment, icterinoidin C, is a dehydro dimer of anhydroic terinoidin B.
