Reflection holograms were recorded in dichromated gelatin and dichroma
ted poly(vinyl alcohol) using Lippmann and symmetric configurations. I
n their diffraction spectra; asymmetry has been observed and a series
of secondary peaks appeared on only one side of the main peak. A detai
led theoretical analysis has been made for both recording geometries.
The relationship between the appearance of secondary peaks with the re
fractive index was given. The number and the amplitude of the secondar
y peaks are related to the thickness of the recording medium as well a
s the recording geometry.
