In this study, color imaging from two-color signals lacking one primar
y is tried. The following two algorithms are presented. (1) A third co
lor is interpolated by a functional description of the other two prima
ries using the foresighting data obtained by prescanning the image. (2
) A spectral distribution of the third color is estimated from the two
-color signals without any foresighting data. Various combinations of
two-color separation filters are tested, and the choice of color chann
els is discussed in relation to the experimental data. Basically, the
lacking pure primary colors could not be well restored, but the algori
thms proved to be useful for partial object images, such as flesh tint
s.
