Abstract
The effect of the DNA-extraction method used on fingerprint patterns o f RAPD was studied using Staphylococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus faecalis. The three methods tested (Chelex, microwave and phenol/chlor oform) led to significantly different RAPD patterns. The microwave tec hnique generated reproducible patterns and seems the most suitable for RAPD analysis of Gram-positive bacteria.
