Mammography of the male breast accounts for less than 1% of mammograph
ic examinations done in breast imaging centers [1], The purpose of thi
s pictorial essay is to familiarize readers with diseases of the male
breast and their mammographic manifestations that were observed during
a 40-month period at the VA Medical Center, West Los Angeles. The mos
t common presenting signs and symptoms that lead to a request for a ma
mmogram in these men included an enlarging breast, a palpable lump, an
d breast tenderness.
