Abstract
The authors demonstrate 10Gbit/s dispersion-compensated long-distance transmission over conventional (non-dispersion-shifted) fibres in a re circulating loop incorporating dispersion compensation fibres (DCF). W e obtain a bit error rate below 10(-9) at 2245km and show the feasibil ity of conventional fibre transmission over more than 2000km long by u sing DCF with practical optical amplifier spacings of more than 80km.
