A case of multivessel fibromuscular dysplasia involving the cervico-ce
phalic arteries, the right renal artery and the iliac arteries is repo
rted. It was associated with reversible bilateral internal carotid art
eries and vertebral arteries dissection, left thalamic infarct, right
hemorrhagic cerebellar infarct, renovascular hypertension and intermit
tent claudication of the right lower limb. This report indicates that
fibromuscolar dysplasia is a systemic angiopathy. Renovascular hyperte
nsion may foster the appearance of complication such as dissection of
the arteries affected by fibromuscolar dysplasia. In the case investig
ated the dissection of cervicocephalic arteries was followed by sponta
neous healing and a favourable neurological outcome whereas at the ili
ac arteries a rapid deterioration was observed.
