The pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin after single i/v dose (10 mg/kg
bw) was studied in febrile and non-febrile groups of female goats. Cp(
max) in febrile and non-febrile goats were 25.29+/-0.77 and 19.77+/-0.
78 mu g ml(-1), respectively, at 2 min post-drug administration. The d
rug plasma level was always higher in febrile goats than in non-febril
e goats. No detectable amount of the drug was found in the plasma samp
le of 3.5 hr in non-febrile goats and of 4 hr in febrile goats. The me
an value of pharmacokinetic parameters for t1/2 alpha, t1/2 beta, Vd(a
rea) and Cl-B were 0.04+/-0.004 hr, 0.78+/-0.03 hr, 1.15+/-0.04 L. kg(
-1) and 17.08+/-0.69 ml. kg(-1) min(-1), respectively, in non-febrile
goats. In febrile goats the corresponding values were 0.03+/-0.001 hr,
0.83+/-0.02 hr, 0.95+/-0.02 L. kg(-1) and 12.96+/-0.62 ml.kg 1 min(-1
). The T/P ratio was 4.07+/-0.29 in febrile goats and 2.63+/-0.27 in n
on-febrile goats. The mean values of K-12, K-21, K-2 and K-12/K-21 in
febrile goats were 18.87+/-1.24 hr(-1), 4.75+/-0.26 hr(-1), 4.12+/-0.3
1 hr(-1) and 3.35+/-0.22 respectively. The values of microconstants in
non-febrile goats were 9.79+/-1.47 hr(-1), 4.55+/-0.25 hr(-1), 3.22+/
-0.28 hr(-1) and 2.12+/-0.24 respectively.
