A general method for the analysis of the deflection of an elastic stra
ight beam resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation is presented. Us
ing Newton's method and the Finite Element Method, a numerical method
has been developed that finds the solution and has a quadratical rate
of convergence. Using the proposed method we are able to find the defl
ection, the contact and the lift-off regions of the beam, the soil rea
ction, M-diagram and V-diagram.
