Abstract
The electron impact excitation functions of the 1 B-3(1u) and 1 B-1(1u ) pi --> pi states of ethylene are measured. The triplet excitation f unction has a broad peak near 6.5 eV that is attributed to the pi(-1)( pi)(2) anion state, and the singlet excitation function displays shar p structure near threshold due to the pi(-1)(3s)(2) anion state.
