Abstract
Metabolic and nutritional studies with stable isotope tracers have pro ved valuable in the human newborn. This technique is acceptable ethica lly, because it does not expose the infant to radioactivity, and it is sensitive enough for the analysis of very small samples. The stable i sotope method has been especially applied to studies of neonatal carbo hydrate, protein, and energy metabolism.
