Abstract
Ten trace elements that are nutritionally essential include: zinc, cop per, selenium, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, fluoride, iodi ne, and iron. This article briefly reviews the biochemistry of these t race elements, describes clinical deficiency states, and provides a ra tionale for recommended enteral and parenteral intakes for preterm inf ants.
