The aim of this study was to research the problem of wear localized on
the thread joint of a percussive rock drilling tube. Wear of the thre
ad joint causes a decrease in the tightness of the joint and increases
the sensitivity of the tube to breakdown. The effect of wear of the t
hread joint on the endurance of a drilling tube was studied using fail
ure follow-up. As a result of failure follow-up, it was found that the
endurance of a drilling tube is primarily dependent on the properties
of the material used. The mechanism of wear was studied using replica
s and a scanning electron microscope. Three different wear mechanisms
were found in the thread joint. The prevalent wear mechanism depends o
n the fixing moment of the thread joint and the location of the wear p
henomenon. Impact wear can be considered to be the dominating factor i
n the wear process.
