Empirical studies on male-female earnings differentials in Asian LDCs
are few and far between. This study finds that differences in producti
ve endowments account for only about 54 per cent of the monthly earnin
gs differential in Malaysia. The major part of this difference may be
attributable to a more favourable occupational distribution among male
s. Overall, females tend to be concentrated in subordinate occupations
and appear to be paid less for similar human capital endowments.
