Abstract
Singularities in the solution of certain problems in the theory of ela sticity of the contact problem type or problems concerning cracks) are analytically modelled in a formulation of variational problems for bo undary functionals using a singular solution of the Lame equation. Num erical modelling makes use of an uncoupled variational formulation of the boundary-element method.
